NCI Summer Ag Academy is a Free Learning Experience for High School Students

The Northern Crops Institute (NCI), in partnership with industry leaders, is hosting an initiative to inspire high school students to explore career opportunities in agriculture. The NCI Summer Ag Academy will be held from June 13-16, 2023, and is open to all high school students in grades 10-12 (as of the 23-24 school year), regardless of their past experience in agriculture.

The academy will offer a free, immersive career exploration experience in food science, animal science, and international trade and policy. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with world-class professionals, facilities, and activities in these fields. The objective is to expose high school students to the vast array of career opportunities available in agriculture and the potential for meaningful work and feeding the world.

Lab Demonstration

The academy will be held on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, and students will be responsible for their own transportation to the event. However, once they arrive, all transportation, housing, and meals will be provided. Participants will stay in an NDSU residence hall, arriving the afternoon of Tuesday, June 13, and being released at approximately noon on Friday, June 16.

The program offers three different tracks to choose from. The Food Science track provides hands-on experience in food product development, allowing students to learn about the creative solutions that will be needed to feed the world. The Animal Science track explores the livestock industry and gives students opportunities to learn about the processes and ingredients used to feed the livestock of today and tomorrow. The International Trade and Policy track examines how agricultural commodities travel to global destinations and how decisions and events in other parts of the world affect U.S. farmers and the economy.

The Summer Ag Academy was designed to allow participants to earn two college credits that can be used in NDSU programs or transferred for use at other institutions. These credits are optional and are electives that can be covered by our sponsors!

Enrollment is now open, and space is limited, so interested students are encouraged to register early. The registration deadline is May 22, 2023. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to explore the many career paths in the agricultural industry and gain hands-on experience in food science, animal science, and international trade and policy.
